Hello and welcome to the Year 5 webpage!

Staff

The Year 5 classes are 5 Chestnut and 5 Elm.  In 5 Chestnut, the class teacher is Miss Wright. In 5 Elm, the class teacher is Mr Graham.

Our teaching assistants in Year 5 are as follows:

5 Chestnut: Miss Roberts, Miss Robson and Mrs Denton

5 Elm: Mrs Hanley and Miss Richmond

PE

Indoor PE is on Tuesday and Outdoor PE is on Fridays.  Children need to come to school in their PE kit on the appropriate days and will stay in these for the whole day.  They are required to come in PE kit on these days and will be learning an array of skills through gymnastics, athletics, dance, OAA and a variety of games.

Homework

In Year 5 children will need to read every day, they can practise times tables on https://www.ttrockstars.com as well as their weekly spellings. Reading expectations are outlined below.

Times Tables Rockstars

Each child has an account that they can access at home - there is also a 'Times tables Rockstars' app that you can download to your phone or tablet.  It has been proven that those children who use these perform better in school and In tests.

Reading

Children should read for at least 10 minutes every night.  If you sign their diary when they have read with you, they can earn a sticker on the class Reading Leaderboard and earn prizes.

It is a school expectation that this homework is completed on time each week.

Curriculum

The main topic in history and geography this half term will be Earth and Space. In Science, we will be developing the children's understanding of forces. In English, we are reading Philip Pullman's Northern Lights and writing letters of complaint.
