Our Intent Statement

Here at Whitecote in our Early Years provision we want children to foster a love of learning in a safe, nurturing and positive environment. This is provided through a stimulating holistic curriculum of well thought out topics, following children’s interests and through first-hand experiences. The natural learning environment both inside and outside promotes and stimulates children’s resilience, curiosity and creativity. We encourage independence through the characteristics of effective learning and create awe and wonder through stimulating learning opportunities as well as enjoying the simple things such as jumping in muddy puddles. Our provision is enhanced through strong parent and carer partnerships which celebrate children’s achievements and individual milestones. This allows children to flourish and reach their full potential, as they take on the next steps of their learning into Key Stage One and beyond.

P.E.

Indoor PE will be on a Thursday morning. Children are to come into school on this day in their PE kit.

Homework

Homework tasks will be sent out via tapestry or in book bags. Reading books will be sent out after the children have started phonics and we have done an initial assessment.

Welcome to Reception

Our First Day in Reception

Phonics

We have begun our phonics learning in Reception and the children are enjoying learning our new pieces of code each day during our phonics lessons. Children are also enjoying practising their phonics skills in their workbooks focusing daily on the new piece of code, applying their reading and writing skills independently. As you can see the children have the opportunity to practise their phonics in a variety of ways through the continuous provision in the classroom.

Searching for signs of Autumn!

The children enjoyed exploring our wildlife area for signs of Autumn. They worked in pairs to find clues and stick them to their detective strips.

Super me!

The children have been learning about what makes them special. They all turned into super heroes and were interviewed about what they thought their super power was!

Spanish Day

The children really enjoyed 'Spanish Day'. They came in red and yellow clothes, enjoyed making fans and flags, learning some phrases and even and learnt how to flamenco dance!

Talk for Writing - The Three Little Pigs

The children have been learning the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. They have been retelling it with actions, whilst following a story map. From there the children have had a go at drawing their own story map independently. Then we adapted the story by changing the characters. The children then drew new characters to replace the old. They have done a fantastic job!

Spring 1: People who help us!

This half term the children have been learning about people who help us. This included Doctors, Posties and the Police. Included in this the children have been exploring the roles in the roleplay area. We also wrote letters to each other and took a short walk to the shop to buy stamps before posting them at the postbox. The children were super excited to receive their letters!
