On 30th January 2017, Year 6 went to Thackray Medical Museum as part of their work on the human body and the Victorians. There, they viewed the horrors of surgery in the early Victorian period, and looked at how advances since have made the experience a lot more comfortable. They learnt about the human digestive system by following the journey of a pea through the body, as well the workings of the heart and muscles. Year 6 also went into a Victorian schoolroom (although no-one was caned). Here they investigated the lives of 4 real individuals from Victorian Leeds by examining several artefacts from the time. After this, they investigated further by stepping back in time and experiencing the smells, sights and sounds of a Victorian street in 1842. A splendid time was had by all.
