In Reception our curriculum covers the following 7 areas of learning: personal, social and emotional development, physical development, communication and language, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world and expressive arts and design. These areas are then broken down further to cover 17 specific areas of learning. We not only develop your child's knowledge and understanding in these areas but we also help them to develop the characteristics of effective learning. Below is a copy of Development Matters which is a document that lays out the different stages of development in your child's learning from birth to 5. At the end of the Reception year children should be able to achieve the Early Learning Goal in all of the different areas of learning.
We use the Jolly Phonics actions and songs when teaching new letters and sounds in phonics. Below are links to the Jolly Phonics website which has free resources that you can download and videos that you can watch, a parents guide to Jolly Phonics as well as a link to a youtube video which includes all of the Jolly Phonics songs.
In Reception we provide a solid foundation in mathematics and some of the areas we cover are: counting, ordering numbers, addition, subtraction, shape and measure. Below are several websites with fun games for your child to use to practise these different skills.
