We are looking forward to a year of high achievements in all aspects of the curriculum.
Please explore the aims of Year 5 below;
The Aspire reward system continues this year. We hope to be able to give out lots of eligibility slips at the end of each week because the children have attended school each day, been on time that week, worn the correct school uniform/correct P.E kit, had P.E. kit and swimming kit at the right times and demonstrated good behaviour in school and on the playground. If children receive awards for activities outside of school, we would also like to hear about these.
Our timetable for the first half term includes swimming on a Friday afternoon and indoor P.E. on a Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure children have the correct kit for each day.
The timetable will change after the Spring term and we will update you on those changes accordingly.
Our main focus in Year 5 is on improving English and Maths skills. Maths will focus on the three aims from the New National Curriculum; Reasoning, Fluency and Problem Solving. In English we will be focusing on SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) as well as covering a wide range of text types.
The topic for this half term is the Raging Rivers! We will be exploring how rivers are created, follow their course from source to mouth and discuss the impact that activities have on shaping our rivers.
In Science we will be looking at Forces. We will be investigating forces such as gravity and air resistance and how they effect our every day life - along with exploring some famous physicians.
In Year 5 children will receive Maths and English homework weekly, as well as spellings and reading books. Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday.
It is a school expectation that this homework is completed on time each week. If homework is not completed then children will have to complete their homework during playtimes and lunchtimes.
