Year 4
Romans in Britain
Year 4 dive into their Romans in Britain topic with enthusiasm and creativity! The children learn about Roman life, art, and influence by designing and sculpting their own Roman busts, inspired by famous emperors and leaders. They also visit Hadrian’s Wall, where they explore the remains of this incredible Roman structure and discovered how it once protected the northern frontier of the Roman Empire. What an unforgettable experience that brings their history learning to life and deepens their understanding of how the Romans shaped Britain.
Anglo-Saxons Workshop
Year 4 stepped back in time for an exciting Anglo-Saxons workshop! The children explored what life was like in Anglo-Saxon Britain through hands-on activities, storytelling, and historical artefacts. They learned about daily life, beliefs, and craftsmanship — even trying their hand at making traditional patterns and symbols. The workshop was a fantastic way to bring their history topic to life and helped pupils understand how the Anglo-Saxons shaped the culture and communities of early Britain.
Visit from Kate Pankhurst
We were thrilled to welcome Kate Pankhurst, author and descendant of the famous suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, to Whitecote! The children were inspired as she shared stories about remarkable women from history and talked about her books celebrating their achievements. Pupils learned about the suffragette movement and how brave individuals fought for equality and the right to vote. The visit linked perfectly to their history learning about significant people who changed the world — encouraging our young learners to believe that they, too, can make a difference.
