Year 6
Year 6 have been busy exploring WWII history through a combination of design and hands-on experiences! As part of their DT project on Anderson Shelters, children learned about different joins and adhesives, producing their own scaled-down versions using chicken wire, card, plasticine, and a variety of materials including glue, tape, and split pins.
We were privileged to host Mr. Batty, a living link to WWII, who captivated the students with his personal accounts of wartime life and being evacuated at just six years old. To immerse themselves further in the period, the children prepared and enjoyed Glamorgan sausages, a popular wartime dish.
During Evacuee Day, pupils decoded Morse code messages, created their own, designed gas mask boxes, and made rationed food. The activities brought history to life, helping students develop both historical understanding and empathy for people living during the war.
