Our Intent Statement
Here at Whitecote, in our Early Years provision, we want children to foster a love of learning in a safe, nurturing and positive environment. This is provided through a stimulating holistic curriculum of well-thought-out topics, following children’s interests and through first-hand experiences. The natural learning environment, both inside and outside, promotes and stimulates children’s resilience, curiosity and creativity. We encourage independence through the characteristics of effective learning and create awe and wonder through stimulating learning opportunities as well as enjoying the simple things such as jumping in muddy puddles. Our provision is enhanced through strong parent and carer partnerships which celebrate children’s achievements and individual milestones. This allows children to flourish and reach their full potential, as they take on the next steps of their learning into Key Stage One and beyond.
P.E.
PE sessions take place every Thursday morning. On this day, children can come to school wearing their PE kit, ready for lots of active fun!
Homework
We encourage children to read at home for at least 10 minutes each day. Every child has a reading record book where families can note down their reading – each entry helps them earn a sticker on our Home Reading Leader Board, which the children love!
From time to time, we will also send home additional homework tasks, either in book bags or through Tapestry, to support and extend learning in fun and engaging ways.
Our classrooms
In Reception, we love creating engaging and inspiring classrooms that support every child’s learning and development. Our classrooms are carefully designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and provide plenty of opportunities for play and discovery. Take a peek inside and see the exciting spaces where your children learn, explore, and grow every day!
Our Provision
Children in Reception access a broad range of provision each day, including areas such as construction, water play, and phonics. Activities are planned on a half-termly basis to align with the children’s interests while maintaining a clear focus on the key learning objectives of our curriculum. This approach ensures that pupils develop the technical skills and knowledge required to achieve a good level of development.
Stay and Play
Each half-term, we invite parents to join us for a Stay and Play session. These sessions provide a valuable opportunity for parents to gain an insight into the learning taking place that half-term, while children enjoy the chance to proudly share their classroom and activities. They are always enjoyable occasions that strengthen the home–school partnership.
