Year 1

Incredible Inventors!

Year 1 kicked off their Incredible Inventors topic with an exciting visit from Orville Wright, who shared the amazing story of how he and his brother invented the very first aeroplane. The children were fascinated to learn about the history of flight and the determination it took to make their dream soar.

Inspired by the Wright brothers, our budding inventors got straight to work designing their own aeroplanes using a fantastic range of creative materials. The classroom was buzzing with ideas!

The fun continued as the children created paper cup phones and eagerly tested them out, discovering how sound travels. We are so proud of their curiosity and enthusiasm as they continue to explore inventions and uncover incredible discoveries.

Year 1 had a fantastic day exploring Scarborough as part of their history and geography learning! The children discovered what seaside holidays were like in the past and compared them to the seaside experiences we enjoy today. A highlight of the trip seeing the Scarborough Victorian tram, which gave pupils a real sense of how visitors once travelled between the beach and the town. They explored the beach, harbour, and promenade, noticing how features of a coastal town have changed over time. It was a wonderful, hands-on way to bring their learning to life — filled with discovery, teamwork, and lots of seaside fun!
