History Quality Mark

We are delighted to announce that Whitecote Primary School has been awarded the Gold History Quality Mark by the Historical Association.
The History Quality Mark recognises and celebrates high-quality history education in schools, highlighting excellent curriculum design, strong teaching practice and a commitment to ensuring all pupils develop a deep and meaningful understanding of the past.
This prestigious award reflects the strength of our history provision, including the breadth of our curriculum, the progression of historical knowledge and skills, and the rich learning experiences we provide for our pupils.
We are incredibly proud of this achievement and of the dedication shown by our staff and pupils in making history an inspiring and engaging subject across the school.
Curriculum Intent Statement
Our history curriculum inspires curiosity about the past and helps children understand how it shapes the world today. In the EYFS, children begin to explore the concept of time through stories, family experiences, and events in their own lives. As pupils progress through school, they develop chronological understanding, build knowledge of significant people, events, and changes, and begin to explore different interpretations of history. Through enquiry and discussion, they learn to organise and communicate their ideas with increasing confidence. We aim for every child to become a thoughtful young historian — curious, respectful, and able to use the past to understand the present and imagine a better future.
