Curriculum Intent Statement

At Whitecote Primary School, we recognise the vital role that physical education and physical activity play in supporting pupils’ physical development, health, wellbeing, confidence, and academic success. We are committed to providing a high‑quality, inclusive physical education (PE) curriculum and promoting active lifestyles for all pupils.

Aims and Objectives

Our Physical Education and Physical Activity provision aims to:

  • Promote healthy, active lifestyles and positive attitudes towards lifelong physical activity

  • Develop fundamental movement skills in the early years and refine these across the primary phase

  • Encourage teamwork, cooperation, resilience and fair play

  • Provide inclusive opportunities for all pupils, regardless of ability, gender, background or need

  • Enable pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and physical challenges

  • Meet statutory requirements of the National Curriculum for Physical Education

Inclusion and Equal Opportunities

At Whitecote Primary School, our approach to physical education reflects our core values to Inspire, Nurture and Challenge every pupil. We are committed to providing an inclusive PE curriculum where all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), medical conditions or individual circumstances, are supported to participate fully and achieve success. Pupils are inspired through positive experiences that develop confidence, enjoyment and a love of physical activity. They are nurtured through a safe, supportive environment where lessons are adapted and reasonable adjustments are made to meet individual needs. All pupils are appropriately challenged to develop their physical skills, resilience and independence, ensuring strong progress for all. Through inclusive practice, we promote equality, respect and ambition, enabling every child to feel valued and included in physical education and school sport.
